Political Party Financing - The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec Publishes the 2010 Financial Reports of Provincial Political Parties

 

Québec City, June 21, 2011 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Mr. Jacques Drouin, announces the publication today of the financial reports of provincial political parties in Québec for the year ending December 31, 2010. In accordance with the provisions of the Election Act, the deadline for filing financial reports was April 30, 2010 for parties and April 1, 2010 for other authorized bodies and entities. The Chief Electoral Officer is presenting the reports in a document containing over 950 pages that contains information about the financial situation of provincial political parties.

The Chief Electoral Officer publishes the highlights of the financial reports of provincial political parties for 2010

 Québec, June 14, 2011 –– Jacques Drouin, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, is today publishing the highlights of the financial reports of the 16 political parties of Québec for the fiscal year that ended on December 31, 2010. In accordance with the provisions of the Election Act, the deadline for filing financial reports for 2010 for political parties was April 30, 2011. To learn more about the financial reports, anyone interested can consult the document "Statistiques sur les rapports financiers des parties politiques," which is available on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer at www.electionsquebec.qc.ca.

Appointment of the returning officers of 17 electoral divisions of Quebec

 

Québec, June 2, 2011 – Today, the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Mr. Jacques Drouin, is proceeding with the nomination of 17 returning officers. In each electoral division the returning officer carries out all of the activities related to the holding of an election or a referendum and sees to the application of the laws administered by the Chief Electoral Officer.

Financing of political parties - The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec launches an information campaign on the new rules

 

Québec, May 9, 2011 – Jacques Drouin, Chief Electoral Officer is launching a major information campaign on the rules that govern the financing of political parties in Québec. New provisions are found in the three Acts passed last December by the Québec National Assembly and are now in force. The payment of political contributions is at the heart of the legislative amendments, and in particular the rules concerning the prevention of the practice of contributing in the name of another. Advertising in newspapers, a presence on the Web and messages disseminated to certain target publics, such as professional associations, will be the main means of communication deployed in the upcoming weeks.

Nunavik's Referendum for the Creation of a Regional Government - The NO Vote Wins a Majority: The Final Agreement is Rejected

 

Quebec, April 27th, 2011 – Nunavik’s regional referendum director, Mr. Adamie Padlayat has announced that at the closing of today’s polls, a majority of voters had voted against the Final agreement on the creation of a regional government. Out of the 4,293 that were cast, 2,842, or 66%, voted NO to the following question:      “Do you approve the Final Agreement on the creation of the Nunavik Regional Government?”

Referendum on the creation of the regional governement of Nunavik - Polling day : the electors are invited to vote

 

QuébecCity, April 26th 2011. It is tomorrow, Wednesday April 27th, that the referendum on the creation of the regional government of Nunavik will take place. The electors of the 14 villages on the territory, as well as the Inuit people who benefit from the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement and who live outside Nunavik are entitled to partake in this referendum. There are 7881 individuals in total who are able to answer Yes or No to the following question:                                                                                                                                                                          

 “Do you approve the Final Agreement on the creation of the Nunavik Regional Government?”

Referendum on the creation of the Nunavik Regional Government - April 20th will be advance polling day

 

Québec, April 18, 2011 – It is the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20th, that advance polling will be held for the referendum on the creation of the Nunavik Regional Government. Electors who live in Nunavik will be able to exercise their right to vote from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the office of the local director of the referendum of their village. In the Montréal region, the Inuit beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement will also be able to participate in advance polling, according to the same schedule, at the office of the local director of the referendum, located at 1111 du boulevard Dr.-Frederik-Philips, in the borough of Saint-Laurent.

Referendum on the creation of a regional government in Nunavik - Referendum List Revision Period

 

QuébecCity, April 6, 2011 – The referendum list for the April 27 referendum in Nunavik will be revised from April 11 to April 14. Every person who wishes to vote in the referendum on the Final Agreement concerning the creation of a regional government in Nunavik must be entered on the referendum list. Electors should therefore check to ensure that their names are on the list, and if necessary, take advantage of the revision period to register or correct their entry.

Referendum on the creation of a regional government - A call goes out to contact electors outside Nunavik

 

Québec, March 25, 2011 – Adamie Padlayat, Chief returning officer of the referendum in Nunavik, requests the collaboration of all persons who know Inuit beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement living outside Nunavik to invite them to exercise their right to vote in this referendum. Only those persons whose name will appear on the referendum list will be able to vote on April 27th or on the other days when voting will be possible. These electors will be able to vote either by mail or at a polling station in Montréal. Electors have up until April 14th to request their entry on the list. In the meantime, it is possible to check existing entries by contacting Sonia Gosselin-Alaku, the local returning officer at the Montréal office.

Referendum on the regional government - The referendum period begins today in Nunavik

 

Québec, March 21, 2011 – The referendum period leading up to the April 27th referendum begins today. The referendum will deal with the Final agreement reached between the federal government, the Government of Québec and Makivik Corporation, concerning a regional government project for Nunavik. Approximately 7,500 electors will be called upon to decide in favour of the YES or NO option concerning this project. While a large majority of the electors are grouped in 14 northern communities, a number of Inuit beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement who do not reside in Nunavik will also have the right to vote.

Referendum on the Nunavik Regional Government. Referendum expenses are allowed,but certain rules must be followed

Québec, March 3, 2011 – The referendum on the creation of the Nunavik Regional Government will be held on April 27th. Adamie Padlayat, regional director of the referendum, informs the electors of Nunavik that the referendum will be subject to financing rules. The purpose of these rules is to offer equal chances for each person to be heard and also to ensure the transparency of the actions that will be taken. However, it is important to distinguish between what is authorized during the referendum period, namely from March 21st to April 27th, and what is allowed during the weeks preceding the start of this period.

Wanted: key democracy players for four electoral divisions of the Island of Montréal

Québec, January 20, 2010 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec has launched a recruitment competition to fill the position of returning officer in the electoral divisions of Jacques-Cartier, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Saint-Henri-Sainte-Anne and Robert-Baldwin. The objective is to appoint a major democracy player whose mandate will be to represent the Chief Electoral Officer in the electoral division, in particular by organizing and holding electoral events, such as general elections and by-elections. Interested persons have until 4:30 p.m. on February 4, 2011 to apply. A two-stage selection process will make it possible to choose a returning officer who will be appointed for a 10-year term of office.
