Press release No. 4 – General election of September 4, 2012 - Compared to the general election of December 2008, polling in 2012 will take place within a renewed framework
Quebec City, August 1, 2012 – A number of elements of the electoral framework for the 2012 general election will distinguish this event from the 2008 vote. A new electoral map, “novelties” with respect to how to exercise one’s right to vote, and changes to the Election Act concerning the financing of political parties, violations of the Act, and their legal consequences are now part of the electoral landscape.

Québec, August 1, 2012 – Within the context of the upcoming September 4 general election, Jacques Drouin, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to remind electors and candidates about the main rules found in the Election Act regarding political contributions and the control of election expenses. As for the rules concerning election expenses, they apply starting tomorrow, August 2, until the close of polling stations on September 4.

Québec, August 1, 2012 –– Jacques Drouin, Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, would like to remind electors and media representatives that numerous sources of information are available to follow the evolution of the election period that is beginning tomorrow, in preparation for the September 4 general election. It will be possible to learn more about the major stages of the election process, the rules governing the election or financing, the characteristics of electoral divisions and data on past elections by visiting the Website of the Chief Electoral Officer, the Information Centre or the press relations office. Notices distributed to every home as well as advertising in the various media outlets are also means allowing electors to obtain information.

The Chief Electoral Officer discloses highlights from the financial reports of provincial and municipal political parties for 2011
Quebec City, June 19, 2012 –– The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, today disclosed the financial reports of Québec’s 18 provincial political parties for the fiscal year ending December 2011. In accordance with the provisions of the Election Act, the deadline for filing 2011 financial reports for political parties was April 30, 2012, whereas it was April 1, 2012 for party authorities and other authorized entities. The various reports are published in two different documents, with the first volume presenting information concerning the financial situation of the provincial political parties and the second containing the lists of persons having made contributions to political entities.

Press release No. 11 – By-elections of June 11, 2012 in Argenteuil and LaFontaine - 288 polling stations will be open on polling day
Quebec City, June 8, 2012 –– Concerning the by-elections in the electoral divisions of Argenteuil and LaFontaine, to be held on Monday, June 11, 2012, the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, is reporting that a total of 288 polling stations, spread over 42 polling places, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.. 155 polling stations will be open in Argenteuil, while 133 will receive the electors in LaFontaine.

This opportunity to vote is available to all those who do not wish to vote on June 11, 2012, the day of “ordinary” voting.

Press release No. 9 – By-election of June 11, 2012 in Argenteuil and LaFontaine - Various procedures are available for electors wishing to exercise their right to vote
Quebec City, May 30, 2012 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, reminds electors in the electoral division of Bonaventure that there are various ways for them to exercise their right to vote in the by-election of June 11, to be held in the electoral divisions of Argenteuil and LaFontaine. Mr. Drouin also reminds them that registration on the list of electors is a pre-requisite for exercising their right to vote. Duly registered electors can then vote on polling day or at an advance poll, a mobile polling station or at the office of the returning officer. Furthermore, it’s at the office of the returning officer that they will be entitled to vote for a candidate from their home electoral division, while temporarily residing in another.

Quebec City, May 26, 2012 –– A total of 19 nomination papers have been accepted for the by-elections of June 11, 2012 in the electoral divisions of Argenteuil and LaFontaine. The period for filing nomination papers ended at 2:00 p.m. today.

Press release No. 7 – By-elections of June 11, 2012 - Electors from Argenteuil and LaFontaine who are absent from their domicile can vote outside their electoral division
Quebec City, May 24, 2012 – Looking ahead to the by-elections of June 11, 2012 in the electoral divisions of Argenteuil and LaFontaine, the Chief Electoral Officer, Jacques Drouin, wishes to inform electors of certain changes to the Election Act. As a result of these new provisions, workers, students, persons receiving health care in facilities or centres, or those having left their domicile for reasons of safety will no longer be able to register on the list of electors of their temporary place of residence, as was allowed under former section 3 of the Election Act. Moreover, for the first time, they may vote for a candidate from their home electoral division, while temporarily residing in another. For example, a student whose domicile is in Lachute, in the electoral division of Argenteuil, who is studying at Cégep Marie-Victorin, in the electoral division of LaFontaine, could exercise his or her right to vote in Argenteuil at the office of the returning officer for LaFontaine.

Quebec City, May 16, 2012 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, invites the electors of the electoral divisions of Argenteuil and LaFontaine to make sure that their names appear on the list of electors in order that they may exercise their right to vote in the upcoming by-election of June 11, 2012. Revision of the list of electors is carried out from May 21 to 29, 2011, and will be followed by a special revision period that will last until June 7, 2012.

Press release No. 5 – By-elections of June 11 in Argenteuil and LaFontaine - Mobile polling in residential facilities and at the elector's domicile
Quebec City, May 14, 2012 – The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, would like to remind all electors with reduced mobility from the electoral divisions of Argenteuil and LaFontaine that they can exercise their right to vote at their domicile or in a residential facility. It should however be noted that in the case of these alternative polling methods, an application must be addressed to the returning officer with due dispatch.
