From December 26 to 30, a hundred young people will take on the role of MNA or journalist and debate bills drafted by their peers during the 73rd legislature of the Parlement jeunesse du Québec. This parliamentary simulation is an exceptional experience to awaken young people to political life and the importance of our democratic institutions. Élections Québec is very proud to support this event.
This year, the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Mr. Pierre Reid, was invited to participate in this simulation as Lieutenant Governor. He will swear in the young MNAs and will have the honour of addressing them at the opening session. He will also sanction the bills that will be adopted during this legislature.
Since his appointment as Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Reid has made democracy education a priority in order to foster citizen participation in Québec. As debate is essential to the vitality of democracy, this parliamentary simulation is a fertile ground to nurture new ideas. This type of experience often marks the beginning of a journey as a committed citizen.
