During a provincial election, the Voters in training program provides an opportunity for voters to experience democracy as a family! Small polling stations set up in each polling station allow children to vote, like their parents, by answering a question specially designed for them. The small polling stations are specifically designed for children between the ages of 3 and 12, but they are open to all young people under the age of 18 who want to learn about the electoral process.
Question
During the by-election in Jean-Talon, children will have the opportunity to answer the following question:
What’s most important for you?
- Helping others
- Being respected
- Express your ideas
- Being different
How it works
- Upon arrival at the polling station, the child is given a sticker, which they are then encouraged to wear proudly to show their status as a voter in training.
- They first accompany their parent to familiarize themselves with the voting process: reception at the polling station, secret vote behind the polling booth, placing the ballot in the ballot box, etc.
- They then go to the small polling station.
- There they receive their own ballot with the question specially designed for them.
- Following the example of their parent, they can then fill out their own ballot and place it in a ballot box. The staff will then give them a temporary tattoo.
- A few days after the vote, the child and their parent can see the results of the small polling station vote on the Élections Québec website.
