To have a recognized existence in Québec, a political party must obtain an authorization from the Directeur général des élections du Québec. It may then seek financing, present candidates in elections and receive from the State the sums of money stipulated in the Act, when it presented candidates in the elections (annual allowance and reimbursement of election expenses).
Before making an application for authorization, a party can reserve a name for a period not exceeding six months, which gives it exclusive rights to the name during that period.
